My Own Songs: End Of This World

After whats happened in London and surrounding areas, a song that I wrote a few months ago seems like it needs to be posted.

End Of This World
James Betts, 2011

Fires are still raging, not enough water to put out this trouble
No idea what they’re doing or who is under the rubble
How many and how young before its time to stop
Wait til’ it’s someone you know

Do you know where your children are?
Because it's gone 12 o'clock
And they're somewhere out on the street
Just imagine how scared they are

Talk about another day in paradise

This devastation just has to stop before the devastation stops us
Sort a plan that brings us all together if it’s just for the sake of love
Don’t let this be the end of something, which could really be something
Nation form with nation for the sake of devastation

Save the man that is falling next to you, don’t kick him when he’s down
Save the girl who’s crying beside you, don’t just listen to the sounds
Maybe there is no one there to save you and offer redemption
Help everyone and anyone, bound by no exemption
Don’t wait til’ it’s someone you know

Do you know where your children are?
Because it's gone 12 o'clock

And they're somewhere out on the street
Just imagine how scared they are

Talk about heal the world

This devastation just has to stop before the devastation stops us
Sort a plan that brings us all together if it’s just for the sake of love
Don’t let this be the end of something, which could really be something
Nation form with nation for the sake of devastation

[CHANT]
Watch as they set fire to the flame
Nation form with nation for the sake of devastation
Watch as you don’t recognise the same
Nation form with nation for the sake of devastation

Walls are falling all around to reveal old battle lines
SOS received but nothing believed this time
Another child dies, another son, another girl
I don’t want to see the end of the world
Rules in place but no one to abide
When the days all finish and you know in time
If nothing ever changes, if no one fights to win this war,
If old mistakes are being held
Someday soon someone’s gonna see the end of this world

This devastation just has to stop before the devastation stops us
Sort a plan that brings us all together if it’s just for the sake of love
Don’t let this be the end of something, which could really be something
Nation form with nation for the sake of devastation

Nothing’s turned to something but nothing’s being done
Surely someone’s watching to finish what’s begun

'End Of This World' samples an unreleased Michael Jackson song entitled '12OClock (Do You Know Where Your Children Are?)'

My Own Songs - Never Let It Show

Never Let It Show
J. Betts, 2011

Been a long time since I seen your face let alone heard your name
This is not the way this should have ended, first player down in this game
Read and read again to believe
My friend is gone, somewhere she needs to be

Now’s the time the scars will fade
The time has come to wash the pain away
Lay back and let it flow and in the night we will all know
How you hurt in silence and never let it show

I remember you, you’re the one who read what I had to say
Lotta looking back going on and you were so understanding of the ways
All them feelings you had inside will now all fade with time
While we will all remember you and the ones you leave behind

Now’s the time the scars will fade
The time has come to wash the pain away
Lay back and let it flow and in the night we will all know
How you hurt in silence and never let it show

So young, so bruised
Too young to be abused
So young to be the one
To feel unused

Now’s the time the scars will fade
The time has come to wash the pain away
Lay back and let it flow and in the night we will all know
How you hurt in silence and never let it show

Don’t forget to look behind you as you prepare for higher ground
Wave us all goodbye

My Own Songs - Damaging Hearts

Damaging Hearts
By J.Betts, 2011

The pride you value has come to nothing
The clouds are forming around and turn to something
Watch that child, watch that man
Something’s coming, understand
People watch, motionless in notion
People wait, some kind of motion
Watch that boy, watch that girl
Something’s coming to change the world

They wait and watch for this to happen and then scrutinise your life
Thinking they have the right to judge, maybe they might
Realise that’s wrong, discover what’s right
Slow this moment down and pull it all apart
Look at how it ended and just try to change how it starts
There’s just too much damaging hearts

Afraid of what they see though they don’t know what it is
Not spent enough time to know there is a name for this
It’s only love, it’s only life
And it’s only right
People watch open mouthed, amazed
Truth is they’re worried, maybe they’re the same
Just cos’ there’s a soul in me that feels it strong
Don’t take out your emptiness on me and tell me that it’s wrong

They wait and watch for this to happen and then scrutinise your life
Thinking they have the right to judge, maybe they might
Realise that’s wrong, discover what’s right
Slow this moment down and pull it all apart
Look at how it ended and just try to change how it starts
There’s just too much damaging hearts

My Own Songs - Won't Know Til I See You

Thought I would start posting lyrics to my own songs. The first is a song I wrote a years days ago. Its a very different song to what I normally write but I really like something about it.

Won't Know Til I See You
Written by J. Betts, 2010

Flicking through the pages can you imagine my surprise?
Discovering someone I never knew could exist inside
Imagine waking up in the morning and opening your eyes
Knowing you got nothing to do and through the curtain is the sunrise
That’s how I think I feel about you

I look at your picture 30 times a day
It seems too much and for too long to be hanging on this way
In my mind I can’t decide what the hell I should do
And I won’t know til I see you
And that could be too late

A few months later and I’m still hesitating about debating over you
It’s not as if you know my name, but if you’re the same then I wanna know you too
Imagine falling asleep at night and when you start to close your eyes
Knowing when you wake up the world will be all new and someone is loving you
That’s how I think I feel about you

I look at your picture 30 times a day
It seems too much and for too long to be hanging on this way
In my mind I can’t decide what the hell I should do
And I won’t know til I see you
And that could be too late
