Mental News: 6000 copies of Modern Warfare 3 Stolen

 

A truck containing around 6000 copies of Modern Warfare 3 was stolen in France this weekend, according to reports.

French site TFI News reports that the truck suffered a collision with a car on saturday morning in Créteil, south Paris, before two masked individuals emerged. The criminals reportedly used tear gas to neutralise the truck drivers before hopping in and making off with the video game shipment said to be worth 400,000 Euros.

Separate reports say the truck contained a delivery of Activision's much-anticipated shooter, Modern Warfare 3 - an estimated 6000 copies of it. This wouldn't be the first theft Activision has suffered, after an employee reportedly stole a copy of the game from a shipping warehouse in California before pirating the disc and uploading it to the internet.

Activision has warned that playing Modern Warfare 3 before it's official release is "not authorised" and that doing so may earn you a ban.

Michael Jackson's Doctor Found Guilty

Michael Jackson's doctor has been convicted of involuntary manslaughter after he administered a lethal dose of a powerful anaesthetic that killed the pop star. The verdict against Dr Conrad Murray marked the latest chapter in one of pop culture's most shocking tragedies - the death of the King of Pop on the eve of the singer's heavily promoted comeback concerts.

Members of Jackson's family, including his sister LaToya, wept quietly after the verdict was read at the Los Angeles court. Mother Katherine Jackson later said: "I feel better now." La Toya Jackson said she was overjoyed. "Michael was looking over us," she said on her way out of the courthouse.

Murray sat stone-faced during the verdict and was handcuffed and taken into custody without bail until sentencing on November 29. He appeared calm as officials led him out of the courtroom. "Dr Murray's reckless conduct in this case poses a demonstrable risk to the safety of the public" if he remains free on bond, Judge Michael Pastor said. A shriek broke the eerie silence in the packed courtroom when the verdict was read, and the crowd erupted outside the courthouse. Jubilant Jackson fans cheered and sang "Beat It" as they held signs that read "guilty" and "killer". Passing motorists honked their horns.

The jury deliberated for less than nine hours. Murray, 58, faces a sentence of up to four years in prison. He could also lose his medical licence. Murray's lawyers left the courtroom without commenting. In Las Vegas, a former Murray patient and current friend, Donna DiGiacomo, sobbed and said she thought the jury was under "overwhelming pressure to convict". 

Jackson died on June 25, 2009. The complete story of his death finally emerged during the six-week trial. It was the tale of a tormented genius on the brink of what might have been his greatest triumph with one impediment standing in his way - extreme insomnia.

EMA 2011 Winners

Lady Gaga was the big winner at this year's MTV Europe Music Awards (EMAs) in Belfast. The 'Born This Way' singer dominated the ceremony at the Odyssey Arena, taking home four awards, including Best Female.

Lady Gaga, who collected her awards wearing a shield that obscured her face, also won Best Song and Best Video for 'Born This Way'.

Other winners included Katy Perry, who was named Best Live Act, Bruno Mars for Best New, and Justin Bieber, who collected the prize for Best Male. The 17-year-old singer also performed his Christmas single 'Mistletoe' and 'Never Say Never' at the ceremony. Justin's girlfriend Selena Gomez hosted the ceremony, which also saw performances from Snow Patrol, Jessie J, Lady Gaga and Queen.

Dawn French Loses Massive Amount Of Weight

She was often referred to as a 'roly-poly' comedienne at the height of her fame. But nowadays 'slimmed down' is a far more appropriate tag for Dawn French. The 53-year-old showed off her svelte new figure at the Galaxy National Book Awards in London this weekend. 

Miss French won the 2011 Specsavers Popular Fiction Book of the Year with her fiction book 'A Tiny Bit Marvellous'. The novel is about the comedic struggles of mother-of-two Mo Battle and her chaotic family. Her new look was a far cry from the Dawn French of old, who once famously said: 'There are two types of women: the ones who like chocolate and complete bitches’. However, that attitude has completely changed and she is now 16 stone, down from 20. 

In her first interview since shedding the pounds, she explained how she achieved her new look. ‘I’m eating healthily, taking care of myself and feeling very happy indeed,’ she said. ‘Life is good. I want to go to Pilates classes, actually.’ Now Miss French, whose Vicar Of Dibley character Geraldine Granger shared her  penchant for chocolate, is restricting herself to an occasional Fruit & Nut bar. She has also given up chips, opting instead for salads.

Miss French announced she had separated from husband Lenny Henry, 52, in April last year after 25 years of marriage. The couple – who have an adopted daughter Billie, 19 – saw their divorce finalised six months later.

Speaking in the latest issue of Woman magazine, she revealed that she is still single – though admitted she had been enjoying the company of new men and ‘gentlemen callers’. ‘The only thing that’s new is meeting new chaps,’ she said. ‘But what is that other than extremely exciting and very good fun? I don’t even want to call it dating, like some teenager. I’m just trying to have a bit of fun every now and again. I’m taking some people up on offers and I’m not taking up other people.’

Miss French admitted she would consider marrying again but insisted she enjoys being single. ‘I’m open to marrying again but I’m certainly not thinking about it right now,’ she added. ‘I’m absolutely not finding it hard to be single. It’s all great.'

Andy Williams Diagnosed With Bladder Cancer

Legendary singer Andy Williams has been diagnosed with bladder cancer. The 83-year-old crooner, best known for his hits 'Moon River' and 'Can't Take My Eyes Off You,' reportedly met with specialists at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas last month, and began a three-week chemotherapy course on Oct. 31.

"Andy got the diagnosis of invasive bladder cancer very recently," a source told the National Enquirer. "That means his cancer has invaded the lining of his bladder, but doctors weren't sure yet whether it had spread to other parts of his body. If the chemo shrinks the tumors, doctors will surgically remove An­dy's bladder," the Enquirer's source noted, adding that after a second round of chemo in Houston, Williams and his wife will relocate to a rental home in Malibu.

"Andy is in for the fight of his life, and he wants to be closer to the hospitals in L.A. that have top-flight cancer treatment centers," the source explained. While representatives for Williams have yet to make comment regarding his illness, his website notes that he may not be able to perform at his annual Christmas show in Branson, Mo., home of his Moon River Theatre.

"Due to health reasons Andy may not make a live appearance in his Christmas Show," his website states. Here is Andy Williams singing 'Can't Take My Eyes Of You' from 1967.
