Transformers 4 WILL happen!

Great news, "Transformers" fans! The man who brought the robots in disguise to the live-action big screen is in final discussions to helm the fourth installment of the franchise. Sources close to Michael Bay say an official announcement could come as early as next week.

Those sources caution Vulture that Bay and Paramount do "not have a closed deal." Apparently negotiations largely hinge on whether he can complete his upcoming film "Pain and Gain" any time soon. If this "Transformers" deal is made, Vulture says Bay will probably start filming "Pain and Gain" as soon as early spring and then will switch into "Transformers" mode by winter 2012.

This next film is rumored to be "definitely not a prequel" and will "delve deeper into the 'Transformers' canon to mine older characters and lore." Sounds like our 10 obscure "Transformers" characters might have a chance after all. The success of the inclusion of Sentinel Prime in "Transformers: Dark of the Moon" is said to have triggered this decision.

Rumors earlier this year suggested Jason Statham might replace Shia Labeouf in the newest "Transformers" installment. He denied the rumors, but we still probably won't see Labeouf return for a fourth flick. He's long been saying that he would not return for more sequels.
