Len Wiseman has revealed that his remake of Total Recall is almost complete. The Underworld director is making a new version of the Arnold Schwarzenegger sci-fi thriller with Colin Farrell and his wife Kate Beckinsale. Both films are based on Philip K Dick's 1966 short story We Can Remember For You Wholesale.
Now, Wiseman has revealed that he is almost done with his movie. He told Coming Soon: "I'm very close to handing over my cut. It's going really well. The combination of mystery and emotion and action, it's coming together. Colin is a large part of that and I'm really happy with him."
He went on to describe the challenges of adapting such an intricate story. "I think the complexity of the dual stories was the most surprising and challenging thing. When you’re involved in... going back into the Philip K Dick story, you realise there is so much to be discussed about the dual stories.
There's the reality story and there’s the fantasy element. They're running parallel together, so you always have to keep those two alive. That’s the inherent nature of the concept and what makes the concept so cool.
The story concerns a construction worker who, wishing to visit Mars, is given commercial memory implants from a tourist company, until it becomes unclear which reality the real one and he may actually be a Martian freedom fighter himself.
The new Total Recall is released in the UK on August 22.
