Scary Movie 5 Confirmed

Lindsay Lohan and Charlie Sheen have joined the cast of Scary Movie 5. Earlier this month (July), it was reported that Lohan was "in talks" to star in the comedy sequel. Now E! has reported that the actress has "officially signed on". A representative told E! that Lohan had not inked a contract "as of right this moment", but insisted that she has committed to the project. E! also reported that franchise favourite Sheen will return for Scary Movie 5, despite apparently being killed off in Scary Movie 4. High School Musical star Ashley Tisdale has already been cast in the movie, which has a projected release date of April 2013.

Scary Movie 5 will be the first film in the parody franchise since 2006's Scary Movie 4. Anna Faris starred in all four previous instalments, but is not expected to return for the fifth film. Other actors to have made appearances in the Scary Movie series include Leslie Nielsen, Pamela Anderson, Cloris Leachman and Carmen Electra. Scary Movie 5 will be directed by Malcolm Lee with a script co-written by David Zucker, who directed the third and fourth films in the series. Movies spoofed in the new film are rumoured to include Black Swan, Paranormal Activity, Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes and 127 Hours.

Lohan, 26, is currently filming The Canyons, an upcoming big screen thriller written by Bret Easton Ellis. She will next be seen in Liz & Dick, a TV movie about the legendary romance between Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton, which is due to premiere on America's Lifetime network in November. Sheen is currently starring in US sitcom Anger Management and has a role in upcoming Robert Rodriguez movie Machete Kills.
