Amy Winehouse - Lioness: Hidden Treasures

A new album of recordings by the late soul singer Amy Winehouse will be released in December, Island Records said Monday. 'Lioness: Hidden Treasures' will contain 12 songs — previously unreleased tracks, alternative versions of existing hits and brand new songs — recorded by the beehive-wearing singer who died at her London home on July 23.

The label said Winehouse's longtime musical partners Mark Ronson and Salaam Remi had spent time since her death listening to recordings of the singer, who many said never sang or played a song the same way twice. Island Records said the duo quickly realized that they had 'a collection of songs that deserved to be heard, a collection of songs that were a fitting testament to Amy the artist and, as importantly, Amy their friend'.

The album — Winehouse's third after "Frank" and "Back to Black" — will be released on Dec. 5. Ronson and Remi compiled the tracks in collaboration with Winehouse's family, management and the label. Winehouse's final studio recording — a cover of "Body & Soul" sung with Tony Bennett — will be included in the album.

The singer's father, Mitch Winehouse, said he had never before heard another one of the tracks, "Halftime," and described the song as 'just incredibly beautiful. If the family had felt that this album wasn't up to the standard of 'Frank' and 'Back To Black' we would never have agreed to release it and we believe it will stand as a fitting tribute to Amy's musical legacy,' he said in the Island Records statement.

Here is the official tracklisting of the new album.
  1. Our Day Will Come (Reggae Version)
  2. Between The Cheats
  3. Tears Dry
  4. Wake Up Alone (Demo)
  5. Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow
  6. Valerie (Demo)
  7. Little Smoke (feat. Nas)
  8. The Girl From Ipanema
  9. Halftime
  10. Best Friends
  11. Body And Soul (with Tony Bennett)
  12. A Song For You
A donation of 1 pound ($1.60) from the sale of each album in the U.K. will go to a foundation to assist disadvantaged children and young adults set up in the artist's name following her death. Last week a British coroner ruled the Grammy-winning singer died from accidental alcohol poisoning when she resumed drinking after weeks of abstinence. The 27-year-old Winehouse had fought a very public battle with drug and alcohol abuse for years, and there had been much speculation that she died from a drug overdose.

Underrated Singers: The Overtones

The Overtones are a five-piece British-Irish doo-wop boy band from London, formed in 2010. They were discovered by a Warner Brothers talent scout while working as decorators in a shop near Oxford Street, singing during their tea break. Their debut album Good Ol' Fashioned Love entered the UK Albums Chart at 16 in November 2010. However, after the re-release of the album in March 2011, it propelled to the high end of the chart at number 4.

Lord Of The Rings Hobbits Reunite

It’s been a whole ten years since the first movie of the Lord of the Rings trilogy graced our cinema screens and in a world exclusive photo shoot and interview for EMPIRE Magazine the four Hobbits (Elijah Wood, Sean Astin, Dominic Monaghan and Billy Boyd) reunite to reminisce about the films that changed their lives.

For the quartet of heroic hobbits, who became the most iconic characters in Peter Jackson’s The Lord Of The Rings, the film was not only a life-changing experience but the start of a beautiful friendship.

Elijah Wood (Frodo): “It’s 12 years ago in August that we all flew out there, so it feels crazy to conceive of that span of time, but at the same time, it doesn’t feel like that much time has passed.”

Dominic Monaghan (Merry): “We fit into our dynamics easily enough, which makes you feel as if no time has passed. I’ll be in my office or something and I’ll go to a bookshelf and pull out something and there’ll be a picture of all of us. It’s interesting that we always talk about the intensity. But on a working day it would be 5.20 to 5.40am pick-up and we’d be done by maybe 7.30pm. It’s a long day and we all chose to hang out with each other afterwards. We sought each other out.”

Sean Astin (Sam): “Whenever you experience something that’s as intense and life-defining as we did together, it never goes away. You see it with people who were at war. Nobody has to say more than a syllable on the telephone and you know who it is. Just the tiniest sound of someone’s voice.”

Elijah: “Our rapport was kind of instant. I will say there’s something about the fact that we all knew it was unique, what we were about to start. We had left our lives and were going to be together for more than a year. I remember the first time I met Dom, I was getting a wardrobe fitting and he came in. I hugged him immediately. I’d never met him before! So that was kind of a linking force for all of us really quickly.”

“The making of those films is ingrained in our DNA now. I went back and did a little bit of work on The Hobbit and was around a number of the crew and people who I associated with Rings. I expected the feeling to be really surreal, to be back in wardrobe and make-up again, and it was. But it also felt normal, as if it’s built into my bone structure. It’s beyond the movies. Beyond what they became...”

Billy Boyd (Pippin): “I remember the last scene we did, and it was to be us in the bar. Pete asked us, ‘What do you guys think you should be doing?’ And we came up with tons of ideas, such as we should have an orc’s helmet and we’re trying to explain to the other hobbits what we’ve been through, all these different ideas. And when it boils down to it, it’s just four guys saying nothing with a drink each, who’ve shared in something that no-one else did. There’s that feeling in real life, too.”

Stallone Sued Over The Expendables Script

The Hollywood tough guy co-wrote the script for the 2010 movie, which united him with action stars including Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger.

However, he is now facing legal action from screenwriter Marcus Webb, who has filed a lawsuit in New York alleging The Expendables is based on his script for a project called The Cordoba Caper.

The lawsuit, filed in Manhattan Federal Court on Tuesday, alleges Stallone's movie is "strikingly similar and in some places identical" to Webb's work and demands unspecified damages for copyright infringement as well as an injunction to stop work on The Expendables sequel, according to Reuters.

George Michael Albert Hall Canelation & Review

After a jaunt around Europe, George Michael basked in a rapturous reception as he arrived back in the UK with his latest tour. Given that his much-publicised peccadilloes have overshadowed a meagre musical output in recent years, fans might have expected a triumphant trawl through his classic hits. Instead there was barely a nod to the pop pearls that sent Wham! skyward in the Eighties or the funkier forays of his early solo work.

Instead, it was a rather sombre affair. Accompanied by a 41-piece orchestra, a black-clad Michael served up symphonic reworkings of largely lesser-known cuts from his back catalogue along with a quirky mix of cover versions. Much as he manages his private life, this made for a brave if occasionally ill judged evening, shifting between cocktail-bar crooning, big-band swing and torch-song theatrics.

While the swelling orchestra provided impeccable support, Michael’s voice was put firmly centre stage. A rich, soulful instrument, it’s capable of serious emotional heft, expertly matching the confessional tone of his own material. The soft shuffle of Kissing A Fool and the mournful You Have Been Loved were elegant and affecting. Twenty-five years on, A Different Corner still rang with youthful vulnerability.

He pulled off a rousing, gospel-flecked take on Rufus Wainwright’s Going To A Town and a late burst of rhythm made Johnny Mathis’ Wild Is The Wind irresistible. Also I love George's versions of Rihanna's Russian Roulette and Terrence Trent D'arby's Let Her Down Easy.

Unfortunately George had to cancel tonight's show due to illness but has said he will try his best to do 28th October's show.

Beyonce Roseland Ballroom DVD

When Beyoncé took the stage back in August for four electrifying nights at the famed Roseland Ballroom, only 3,500 lucky fans per night, who bought those tickets in a record 22 seconds, were able to catch the intimate shows in the historic New York venue where she managed to turn a club into a coliseum.

Praised as “robust,” “finely-tuned,” and “compelling” by The New York Times, “4 Intimate Nights With Beyoncé” at Roseland Ballroom, was a tour de force for the entertainer. It was the only time she would perform her new album, 4, almost completely and to a very limited audience. Backed by her all-female band, with an additional string section, the performances were punctuated with spirited stories detailing her journey before the album, 4, including her years before and with Destiny’s Child.

On Monday, November 21, just in time for Thanksgiving, fans who longed to be at those shows can get up close and personal with Beyoncé and experience for themselves the energy and magic that filled the Ballroom with the release of Live At Roseland, exclusively at Walmart. The 26-song live DVD brings the quaint setting turn stadium performances to your living room.

And on Tuesday, November 29, Live At Roseland: The Elements Of 4 deluxe package, a two-disc DVD, with the complete concert, bonus offstage footage, a 20-page booklet and a video anthology that includes seven videos from her latest album, 4, will be released worldwide. The concert documentary is filled with never-before seen footage that captures Beyoncé’s life from eager five-year-old music fan to a consummate entertainer who is in control of every inch of her life and career.

In advance of the DVD’s release, the new video for “Party,” included in the anthology on the deluxe DVD, will be on air on BET’s 106 & Park tonight and online with VEVO and Beyonceonline.com. Directed by Beyoncé and Alan Ferguson, “Party” is the sixth video released from “4” and features rapper J Cole with cameos from Solange and Kelly Rowland.

George Michael Never Too Old For Dance Music

George Michael claims he will never be too old for dance music because he is gay. The 'Faith' hitmaker is planning to undertake a new musical direction and believes that his advancing years may mean he is taken less seriously, though he insists the criticisms would be "irrelevant" because of his sexuality. He said: "I'm writing dance music - even if I'm on the cusp of being too old to be taken seriously to make that music. As a gay man, you don't have to stop dancing by 48 - there's plenty more years to go.

"The point about house music and dancing within the gay community is you don't have to stop doing it, because you don't have children to get up for in the morning. "There's plenty of things gay people don't have to stop doing, which makes the question of, 'Am I too old to do it?' irrelevant in my community."

George - who is currently on a European tour entitled Symphonica, which sees him perform his greatest hits accompanied by a 41-piece orchestra - wants the music to appeal to all of his fans, but is paying particular attention to use his new songs to "address issues" facing gay people. He said: "All that's important to me now is that it's a new direction because lyrically I want to address issues that gay people facce. I still want to make the songs universally enjoyable. I'm not trying to turn anyone off from my original fan base but it's at the other end of the scale to the tour."

Westlife Announce Split

Chart-topping act Westlife are to split "amicably" after 14 years and 26 top ten hits, they have announced. The Irish group will bow out following a farewell tour next year and said they are looking forward to "new ventures". Over the course of their career the group has achieved 14 number one hits.

In a statement the group said: "Over the years Westlife has become so much more to us than just a band. Westlife are a family." The group - for many years managed by Louis Walsh - survived the departure of one of its founding members Bryan McFadden, and continue seamlessly as a four-piece. Singer Mark Feehily also won admiration for announcing he was gay when the boy band were at the peak of their success.

They produced hit after hit, with singles such as 'Swear It Again' and 'Flying Without Wings' among their number ones. Many of their big hits over the years were cover versions, such as 'You Raise Me Up', 'When You Tell Me That You Love Me' and 'I Have A Dream', and they capitalised on a swing revival by recording a Rat Pack-style album Allow Us To Be Frank.

Members Feehily, Kian Egan, Shane Filan and Nicky Byrne are due to release a greatest hits album shortly. They said they had "countless memories that we will forever cherish" from their years together.

Here are some of Westlife's finest moments.

Chord Overstreet Returning To Glee

Entertainment Weekly reported Chord Overstreet is coming back to McKinley High and is currently finalizing a recurring character deal, something he turned down this past summer. Although this means Sam Evans still won't be a series regular, E! News reported fans can see him on the show as soon as this season's eighth episode, and he will be back in time for Sectionals.

When Overstreet turned down a similar offer earlier this year, the show's executive producer, Brad Falchuck, said "we were really disappointed...We wanted him back because we like Chord personally and had some good stories planned for him and with Mercedes (Amber Riley). He decided he would have opportunities elsewhere that he would like to pursue, and we can't force him to work, so we wished him well."

Although no one knows how Sam will be re-introduced to the show, Mercedes has to play some part in it. After all, the two were dating over the summer before his family moved.

UB40 Members Declared Bankrupt

A judge at Birmingham County Court made the ruling against saxophone player Brian Travers, drummer Jimmy Brown, trumpeter Terence Oswald and percussionist Norman Hassan last week. It comes after the failure of the band's now defunct record label DEP International and a bust-up over finances which split the group in 2008. UB40 sold more than 70 million records over their 33-year career. They notched up more than 50 chart hits including Red Red Wine, I Got You Babe and Kingston Town.

The court order lasts for a year and means that tax officers could seize property to pay off any outstanding debts. The four musicians' details have now been listed by the Insolvency Service. A spokeswoman for former frontman Ali Campbell told the Daily Telegraph the bankruptcy court case showed he was right to quit the band. "It is ironic that the very week they celebrate their first gig they have been declared bankrupt, after administration began in 2006, vindicating both Ali and Mickey Virtue's decision to leave UB40," she said.

Campbell acrimoniously split from the band in 2008 citing "management difficulties". In an open letter to fans on the band's website, he said he was "deeply unhappy with administrative practices", adding he had "an ongoing investigation into the handling of my business affairs in relation to UB40".

A fifth original member of the group - Robin Campbell, the brother of Ali - was also involved in the Birmingham County Court case, although is not listed as bankrupt. The ruling comes a week after UB40 were honoured with a music heritage plaque at the Hare and Hounds pub in Kings Heath, Birmingham, where the band first performed in 1979.

Here is some of UB40's brilliant songs.

Meat Loaf - Hell In A Handbasket - Tracklisting And Review

Meat Loaf has released a brand new album and there was so little promotion I didn't even know. However I have downloaded it and I am going to listen to it today. Until then here is a review from Stephanie Myers for Music Feeds.com.

As a larger-than-life presence in every sense of the word, Meat Loaf doesn’t sing mere songs so much as he sings life anthems. To this end, hearing the news that he was planning on releasing an album, Hell in a Handbasket, self-described as the most personal he’s ever made, comes as a bit of a shock — he’s always made it clear that he’s channeling characters in his songs and on albums (the reason why he’s a middle-aged man railing against parents and schools in Bat Out of Hell II, for example — he’s playing a tormented teenager). But Meat, an accomplished actor with more than 60 films under his belt, is shedding the acting for Handbasket, however, and the transformation is an intense one.

The album, however, is not only a personal record, it’s also a razor-tongued condemnation of what Meat sees as going wrong in the world – and that includes everything from world hunger, money-grabbing industry parasites and fairweather friends. If it sounds ambitious, it is; and more importantly, from a thematic standpoint, the result is a concept album whose subject matter ultimately doesn’t come across as contrived.

The album’s direction is evident from the opening track, All of Me, which is startling in its lack of usual bravado (and dare we say, even showcases some rarely seen vulnerability). Gone is the channeling of an anguished character; this new voice actually admits “these are my insecurities/that I can’t explain.” Another track, The Giving Tree, laments the artificial draw of wealth and fame and extols the virtues of creating a self-made life.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a Meat Loaf album without some straight-ahead pull-yourself-up-by-your-bootstraps rock tracks, and the album delivers on this front as well, especially with the radio-ready Fall from Grace. Party of One, meanwhile, is a hard-driving track that reflects the personal and professional turmoil Meat went through after firing his cadre of managers and handlers after suffering a physical breakdown post -Bat Out of Hell III in 2006.

Listening to a duet on a Meat Loaf album is often the equivalent of watching a much older actor play a high-school student rather convincingly — you’re surprised how much you enjoy it, even if you’re not quite sure why it’s happening. Many of Meat’s duets with longtime collaborator Patti Russo are usually fantastically histrionic affairs — breathless numbers that conjure up teenage longing, not more age-appropriate adult relationships. But this album’s duet, Our Love and Our Souls, nails the album’s overall tone home. The song is a stark contrast to the duets that came before it, finding the two in a domestic setting dealing with everyday minutiae — cars and heat breaking down and bills piling up, and consequently learning how to depend on each other. It mirrors the ambiance of the rest of the album; as listeners, we’re witnessing a number of cathartic moments of someone comfortable in his own skin.

There are a couple of covers here, including the Mamas and the Papas’ California Dreamin’ and Tom Cochrane’s Mad Mad World, both keeping in line with the album’s premise. Of course, not all the songs here necessarily adhere to the rest of the album’s theme; Stand In the Storm, a previous collaboration with Meat’s ‘Celebrity Apprentice’ team contestants, is inexplicably included here, name-checking Donald Trump and the team name. But it’s only a small misstep in what is a truly outstanding album.

To say Meat hasn’t been in this form in years wouldn’t technically be true; you’ve never seen him be this raw or candid at all in his music. And it’s a decision that’s a tremendously wise one — Handbasket delivers on all accounts.
