Phillip Phillips - The World From The Side Of The Moon - Album Cover

Here is the debut album cover from Phillip Phillips, 'The World From The Side Of The Moon'.

Kelly Clarkson & Phillip Phillips Record Duet

Phillip Phillips will soon release his anticipated debut album according to reports Monday. Following months of recording and the American Idols Live Tour, Phillips is poised to release 'The World From The Side of the Moon' in November. With his sound described as a blend of alternative, jazz and rock, it is currently unclear what song will lead the effort as a single.

Phillips is the second American Idol winner to be poised for a late 2012 release. He joins original "American Idol" winner Kelly Clarkson, who will release a greatest hits package November 19. Titled 'Greatest Hits, Chapter 1', the effort will include some of Clarkson's chart-topping hits including "Mr. Know It All." New songs will also be included on the several track effort. The new single 'Catch My Breath' is among those. "This song represents who I've been, what I've felt, and where I'm headed as not only an artist but as a 30 year old that is now smart enough to know that it's time to stop, catch my breath, and be proud of not only what has been accomplished but of all the people that have helped me become the woman I am today," Clarkson says of the song. "The song will be part of my first ever greatest hits coming in November. Thank you everyone that has been a part of my career and life. Here's to another decade of passion and fun!"

Skyfall - Review

When an operation in Istanbul goes wrong, Bond is shot and declared deceased. He is resurrected by M (Judi Dench) to fight an old enemy whose cyber terrorism threatens the existence of MI6. Bond returns to form in perhaps the most beautiful Bond movie of them all. Sam Mendes steers the world's biggest film franchise through an escalating sequence of astonishing action scenes if never delivering much real espionage. Craig is excellent, taking the character to the limit.

Remember when we first saw Daniel Craig in Casino Royale? He was brutal: bludgeoning bad guys, running through walls and jumping off cranes. He lost his way in Quantum Of Solace, a follow-up afflicted by a confusing script and the credit crunch. This is the successful return of Bond. First and foremost, Sam Mendes has crafted one of the most stylish blockbusters you'll ever set eyes on. Skyfall is masterfully shot, lavishing screen time on its star as he deteriorates and is resurrected.

Bond has never lost his edge like this. There's a moment where he stands at an MI6 testing facility, struggling to steady his weapon as he stares down the gun range through bloodshot eyes. Of course he'll make it back. But it's an arresting moment. We genuinely fear for him. "Sometimes the old ways are the best," coos Naomie Harris (a magnificent, steamy performance) as she shaves him with a cut-throat razor (one of a sequence of wonderfully sexy encounters). And Skyfall delivers on that promise, unabashedly throwing in retro Bond touches throughout with plenty of humour. Judi Dench, in her most extensive and challenging Bond role, is made to defend the existence of 007, his old-fashioned ways and his type from the pencil pushers. So it's a delight to see her hop in the Aston Martin alongside Bond and go to war.

That's the moment, about two hours in, when Skyfall becomes a battle, set in 007's old family home. For half an hour or so, we forget the plot twists and go at it with all guns blazing. There are revelations, yes, but it might have been nice to have seen Bond outsmart the terror threat of Javier Bardem's cyber-villain, which never really happens. In fact that's the only criticism you can level at this brilliantly realised and enormously ambitious blockbuster. There are no real spy games in Skyfall. That's not a criticism of Javier Bardem, who brings a bucketful of humour and creepiness to his villain. But he simply magics villainy out of thin air through his computer, before losing his marbles and going full tilt at M ('Mommy') and 007.

But forget it, the joy of Skyfall is to sit back and let it land, majestically, on the back of your eyeballs.

Barbra Streisand - Back To Brooklyn - Review

Royalty returned to Kings County last night as Barbra Streisand performed in her hometown for the first time since she left the borough more than 50 years ago. "Barbra: Back To Brooklyn" kicked off its first of two New York City performances Thursday evening in the new and very polished Barclays Center.

The sold out stadium housed more than 18,000 screaming Streisand fans, including the likes of Woody Allen, Rosie O'Donnell, Regis Philbin, and Katie Couric, all eager to witness the highly anticipated homecoming.  And while the venue is impressive in its size and grandeur, it ain't no match for Ms. Streisand.

The show started with a montage of photos from Streisand's earliest years that set the tone for the evening: This show was as much about reminiscing as it was about where she -- and the borough for that matter -- have come. The curtains dropped to reveal a sensational 60-piece orchestra divided into two rectangular pits and conducted by the tour's musical director Bill Ross. Streisand rose from the center of the stage, dressed head to toe in black sequins. "Like the outfit?" she later teased. "Donna Karan!"

Quite appropriately, Streisand opened with a touching "As If We Never Said Goodbye," complete with lyrics in Brooklyn's honor. The phrases were delightful, highlighting the "Brooklyn docks and nova lox" and encouraging audience members to "tawk amongst yourselves." Streisand's voice, though phenomenal without doubt, grew raspy at times. And while she seemed vocally more cautious at some climactic opportunities, the 70-year-old singer is certainly still killing it. During a moving tribute to her dear friend and sometimes-musical director Marvin Hamlisch, Streisand accompanied "The Way We Were" with his original film orchestration. That first oh-so-profound hum seemed to awaken all the senses all over again, a feat that only Streisand can achieve. Perhaps due to the cold she recently woke up with (that led her to sip chicken soup on stage), she did not take the song up into its higher range.

However, she did take "Don't Rain On My Parade" to new levels - a spectacularly fun and loose rendition that was part of a larger Broadway medley. The audience was on its feet, roaring in applause in no time.
Streisand's banter with the audience is one of the reasons why seeing her perform live is so fun. "Do you know you look like Dick Cheney?" she told an audience member in the front row. "This is what happens when I look at the audience, not good." After a brief intermission, Streisand sang "Smile" with pop-opera trio "Il Volo," and moved into more classics with famed trumpeter Chris Botti.

Streisand's son Jason Emanuel Gould joined her on stage to perform "How Deep Is The Ocean?" "Do you need a sweater? Chicken soup?" a kvelling Streisand asked. Their duet was beautiful - tender yet powerful. The Josh Groban comparisons seem inevitable because Gould is simply outstanding (and wears the same hair style).

Streisand grew somewhat political at moments, talking about environmental protection before performing Leonard Bernstein's "Make Our Garden Grow" with the Brooklyn Youth Choir. During an audience question-and-answer bit, Streisand addressed Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney and his vows to axe PBS funds. "I hope no one shows him the way to Sesame Street--or Pennsylvania Avenue," she quipped to great reception. (Streisand made the exact same comments at her earlier concert in Philadelphia.)
She closed the main show with an effortless "Some Other Time" before returning to deliver an energetic "Happy Days" for an encore, recalling her wonderful 1963 duet with Judy Garland and surely sending concert-goers home with skips in their steps.

"It's as if we never said goodbye," Streisand sang when she opened her first-ever Brooklyn concert. But we did for some time, and we're all the better for it.

Shameless Cancelled After 11 Seasons

Shameless creator Paul Abbott has called time on the character of Frank Gallagher after 11 series of the BAFTA award-winning Channel 4 drama. The writer announced that dysfunctional alcoholic Gallagher and his family will make one last outing on Manchester's Chatsworth council estate with a new series to be broadcast early next year.

The last hoorah is due to hit television screens in 2013 and will mark 10 years since the drama was first filmed in Manchester in 2003. Abbott revealed his reasons for putting an end to the beloved show, which first aired in January of 2004, were very personal and largely due to the recent passing of his father. He said: 'Its 10th anniversary seems a fitting time to shut the book on Shameless.' 'But this is also the year my dad died and he was, in abstract, my core inspiration for starting the whole Shameless party rolling, I wanted to make invisible people vivid.' 'Closing the two eras in the same year feels very right. Now I'm off to build the next whatever-it-is.'

Shameless, starring David Threlfall as Frank Gallagher, helped launch the careers of some of today's finest acting talents such as James McAvoy, Anne-Marie Duff and Maxine Peake. The show, which also stars Rebecca Atkinson, Elliot Tittensor and Tina Malone, led to the spawning of a US version of the show. A hit in America, the television series stars Hollywood A-list actor William H. Macy and actresses Emily Rossum and Amy Smart.

Channel 4 chief creative officer Jay Hunt said: 'Shameless, ground-breaking when it launched and gob-smacking ever since, has over the years built a loyal following. 'We are in Paul Abbott's debt for bringing his defiantly dysfunctional band of characters to Channel 4 and I'm delighted to say we have other drama projects with Paul in the pipeline.' Fans will no doubt be devastated at the news as the programme was an instant hit, and continued to be, throughout its 139 episodes.

George Michael Cancels Australian Tour

British singer George Michael has canceled his tour of Australia due to "major anxiety" brought on by his recent battle with severe pneumonia, he announced on his website. The former Wham! frontman said that he would complete his Symphonica Tour dates in Britain in October before seeking treatment.
He had been due to open in Australia in Perth on November 10 before performing in Adelaide, Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Hunter Valley on December 1.

"I have ... announced the cancellation of the shows in Australia which breaks my heart," Michael said in a statement. The 49-year-old "Careless Whisper" and "Faith" singer fell ill in Vienna last November and was treated under intensive care for a month for a life-threatening illness. He was forced to postpone his tour but resumed it some 10 months later. "Since last year's illness I have tried in vain to work my way through the trauma that the doctors who saved my life warned me I would experience," Michael said. "They recommended complete rest ... but I'm afraid I believed (wrongly) that making music and getting out there to perform for the audiences that bring me such joy would be therapy enough in itself."

He said his return to the stage had brought him "great happiness" and that some of his recent performances were his best to date, but concluded: "I was wrong to think I could work my way through the major anxiety that has plagued me since I left Austria last December. "All that's left for me to do is apologize to my wonderful Australian fan base and to promise faithfully that as soon as I completed these shows here in the UK, I will receive the treatment which is so long overdue." Tickets to his Australian concerts will be refunded.

Adele - Skyfall

After being leaked online, Adele's Bond theme Skyfall will be released on Friday. A snippet of the song, Adele's first recording since her million-selling album 21, surfaced overnight. Skyfall was written and recorded with Paul Epworth at Abbey Road studios in London with a 77 piece orchestra. In a press release, Adele said she was initially hesitant to record a Bond theme. "There's a lot of instant spotlight and pressure when it comes to a Bond song," Adele said. "But I fell in love with the script and Paul had some great ideas for the track and it ended up being a bit of a no brainer to do it in the end. It was also a lot of fun writing to a brief, something I've never done which made it exciting. When we recorded the strings, it was one of the proudest moments of my life. I'll be back combing my hair when I'm 60 telling people I was a Bond girl back in the day I'm sure!"

The leaked sample of Skyfall indicates Adele has harked back to the lush feel of Shirley Bassey's theme songs for Diamonds Are Forever and Goldfinger.Skyfall will premiere in full on adele.tv at 9.07am this Friday (it is launched at 0.07am UK time in a nod to Bond) and will then be available to purchase on iTunes.

Adele's 21 has sold over 24 million copies, the biggest selling album of 2011 as well as still 2012's highest-seller to date. She has taken most of 2012 off to prepare for the birth of her first child.October 5 marks the 50th anniversary of the release of Dr No and the start of the James Bond film franchise.Skyfall is released in UK cinemas on October 26 but Australians will have to wait until November 22 to see it.
