Well Written Songs: My Love

My Love
Written by Lionel Richie, 1983

I've been through so many changes in my life woman
It's a wonder I ain't lost my mind
And I ain't never said how much I need you sugar
But I sho' need you by my side

My love, just thinking about you baby
Just blows my mind
My love, just thinking about you baby
Just blows my mind all the time

Life with me I know for sure it ain't been easy
But you stayed with me anyway
And even though you ain't gonna lose too much by leaving
I'm so glad you stayed

My love, just thinking about you baby
Just blows my mind
My love, just thinking about you baby
Just blows my mind all the time

You've been my friend and you've been my lover, oh Lord
Honey you're everything I need
You've made my love so strong now I know where I belong
Oh girl you'll never have to worry
Oh baby any more, any more

'My Love' is the title of a 1983 hit song by the American R&B/pop music singer-songwriter Lionel Richie. It was the third single released off Richie's self-titled debut solo album. The song features harmony backing vocals by country music singer Kenny Rogers. It reached the Top 10 on three notable Billboard magazine charts in the spring of 1983: on the pop chart, the song peaked at # 5; on the adult contemporary chart, the song spent four weeks at # 1; and on the R&B chart, the song topped out at # 6. 'My Love' was not among Richie's more successful singles in the United Kingdom, where it managed # 70 on the UK Singles Chart. However the song is a favourite amoung fans and has recently been re-recorded for Richie's country album 'Tuskegee' and has been performed live at some of his recent concerts.
