Coldplay & Rihanna Set To Play Paralympics Closing Ceremony
Rihanna is set to join Coldplay to perform
their hit single 'Princess Of China' at the London 2012 Paralympics
closing ceremony, according to reports. The singer has been spotted in London for secret rehearsals for the show, according to the Daily Star. "All the Closing Ceremony details are top secret but Rihanna has
already started rehearsing," a source told the paper "As soon as
Coldplay signed up she was the obvious choice to accompany them on
stage."
The closing ceremony, entitled the 'Festival of Flame', will see
Coldplay play a number of their biggest hits on the night (September 9). "The Closing Ceremony is basically a glorified Coldplay concert," added the source. "They will hardly be off stage. They may only be getting paid a £1 to perform but they will make a
fortune in royalties as their music flies up the charts afterwards.''
Chris Martin and co were also approached by London organisers to play
the the closing ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games but turned
down the opportunity.

Neil Armstrong Dies Aged 82
Armstrong underwent a heart-bypass surgery earlier this month to relieve blocked coronary arteries. As commander of the Apollo 11 mission, Armstrong became the first human to set foot on the moon, hours after Apollo's Eagle lunar module had touched down on July 20 1969. He radioed back to Earth the historic statement: "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind." He then spent nearly three hours walking on the moon with fellow astronaut Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin.
Praising Armstrong as a "reluctant American hero," his family said
in a statement on Saturday that he had "served his nation proudly, as a
navy fighter pilot, test pilot, and astronaut." “Neil was our loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. “Neil Armstrong was also a reluctant American hero who always believed he was
just doing his job. He served his Nation proudly, as a navy fighter pilot,
test pilot, and astronaut."
The British astronomer Sir Patrick Moore said: "As the first man on the moon, he broke all records. He was a man who had all the courage in the world." Charles Bolden, the NASA administrator, said: "As long as there are history books, Neil Armstrong will be included in them, remembered for taking humankind's first small step on a world beyond our own. We mourn the passing of a friend, fellow astronaut and true American hero." Armstrong was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by Richard Nixon, and in 1978 he received the the Congressional Space Medal of Honour from President Jimmy Carter.
Last November Armstrong, along with three other astronauts, received the Congressional Gold Medal, the highest US civilian award.
A statement from his family issued on Saturday night said he died following complications resulting from cardiovascular procedures.
Armstrong was born in Wapakoneta, Ohio, on August 5, 1930. On July 20, 1936, when he was 6, he experienced his first airplane flight in Warren, Ohio, when he and his father Stephen, an auditor for the Ohio state government, took a ride in a Ford Trimotor, a three-engined transport plane that was also known as the "Tin Goose". After serving as a naval pilot from 1949 to 1952, and serving in the Korean War, Armstrong joined the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA) – the precursor to NASA, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration - in 1955. As a research pilot at NASA's Flight Research Center, Edwards, Calif., he was a project pilot on many pioneering high speed aircraft, including the well known, 4000-mph X-15.
Armstrong joined the NASA astronaut corps in 1962. He was assigned as command pilot for the Gemini 8 mission. Gemini 8 was launched on March 16, 1966, and Armstrong performed the first successful manned docking of two vehicles in space. His second and last spaceflight was as mission commander for the Apollo II moon landing. After commanding the Apollo 11 mission, Armstrong subsequently held the position of Deputy Associate Administrator for Aeronautics, NASA Headquarters, Washington, D.C. In this position, he was responsible for the coordination and management of overall NASA research and technology work related to aeronautics.
He was Professor of Aerospace Engineering at the University of Cincinnati between 1971-1979. Armstrong and his wife, Carol, married in 1999, made their home in the Cincinnati suburb of Indian Hill, but he had largely stayed out of public view in recent years. He spoke at Ohio State University during a February event honouring fellow astronaut John Glenn and the 50th anniversary of Glenn becoming the first American to orbit the Earth. In May, Armstrong joined Gene Cernan, the last man to walk on the moon, at Pensacola Naval Air Station in Florida to support the opening of The National Flight Academy, which aims to teach maths and science to kids through an aviation-oriented camp.

John Lennon's Killer Denied Parole
John Lennon's killer has been denied release from prison in his seventh appearance before a parole board. Mark Chapman, 57, was denied parole after a hearing on Wednesday, the New York Department of Corrections said.
Chapman shot Lennon in December 1980 outside the Manhattan apartment building where the former Beatle lived. He was sentenced in 1981 to 20 years to life in prison after pleading guilty to second-degree murder. Chapman
was transferred in May from the Attica Correctional Facility in western
New York to the nearby Wende Correctional Facility. Both are maximum
security. The prison system does not disclose why inmates are
transferred.
He can try again for parole in two years. At
his previous hearing, Chapman recalled that he had considered shooting
Johnny Carson or Elizabeth Taylor instead and said he chose Lennon
because he was more accessible, that his apartment building by Central
Park "wasn't quite as cloistered".
Chapman fired five shots
outside the Dakota apartment building on December 8, 1980, hitting
Lennon four times in front of his wife, Yoko Ono, and others. The
former security guard said his motivation was instant notoriety but that
he later realised he made a horrible decision for selfish reasons. "I
felt that by killing John Lennon I would become somebody and instead of
that I became a murderer, and murderers are not somebodies," Chapman
told the board two years ago.
Ono, 79, had said two years ago that
she was trying to be "practical" in asking that her husband's killer
remain behind bars. She said Chapman might be a danger to her, other
family members and perhaps even himself.
Barbra Striesand - Release Me - Album Cover & Tracklisting Information
Barbra Streisand's private music vault holds all the
master tapes she's recorded for five decades. Now, she's sharing 11
previously unreleased songs, spanning a cross-section of her career from
1963 to the present. The collection, titled Release Me, will be
available on vinyl (Tuesday, September 25) and on CD (Tuesday, October
9).
In an unparalleled career, Streisand has released more than 60 albums.
Many of the sessions for these albums yielded extra recordings, which
weren't included on the albums they were intended for. They've all been
stored in her vault until now. Over the past year, Barbra has
painstakingly gone through the recordings to come up with this
collection, Release Me.
Highlights include: "Didn't We" written by Jimmy Webb - recorded in 1970
for an unreleased album project titled The Singer; the standard "Willow
Weep For Me" - an unreleased track recorded in 1967 for Simply
Streisand, arranged by Ray Ellis noted for his legendary work with
Billie Holiday; A striking version of Randy Newman's "I Think It's Going
Rain Today," with Barbra on vocals and Newman on piano - from the 1971
Stoney End sessions; an unreleased studio version of "With One More Look
At You" from A Star Is Born; Two tracks from the unreleased sequel to
the acclaimed The Broadway Album, titled Back To Broadway - "Home" (from
The Wiz) and "How Are Things In Glocca Morra ? / Heather On The Hill"
(from Finian's Rainbow / Brigadoon).
Reflecting on the album, Streisand noted, "The thing I'm happiest about
is that I still have great affection for all these songs. They appealed
to me at the time...and still do. Listening now, I actually think to
myself, 'The girl wasn't half bad.'"
With the exception of two songs where the original masters couldn't be
located, all the tracks on Release Me were transferred from first
generation master tapes. Every attention was paid to preserving the
sonic perspective of the sessions as they were originally recorded and
mixed.
Speaking of the unreleased recordings that reside in Barbra's music
vault, her long-time A&R man and co-producer of Release Me, Jay
Landers says in his liner notes, "All of Barbra's glorious music...her
ideas...the collaborative efforts of the fortunate songwriters,
arrangers, mixers and producers who have come into her orbit...the
experiments...the occasional missteps and the many triumphs - all driven
represent the unstoppable force of one woman's vision."
The complete track listing for Release Me features:
- Being Good Isn't Good Enough (from Hallelujah, Baby!)
- Didn't We

Finding Nemo 2, Toy Story 4 and Monster Inc 2 Announced
News of a sequel to the much-loved Pixar classic Finding Nemo has hit Twitter. It
started trending after news sources started reporting that Ellen
DeGeneres, who voiced Dory in the original, is negotitating her role in
the sequel. She’s long been one of the more vocal cheerleaders for a
sequel to the 2003 film.
Tom Hanks told BBC News last
year that he believed 'Toy Story 4' was already "being worked on." Toy
Story 4, which appears to snub the neat resolution at the end of Toy
Story 3, is also being worked on.
A prequel to Monsters Inc will be released next year entitled Monsters University.
Reaction to the likely sequel to Finding Nemo has been largely positive on Twitter.

Celine Dion - At Last: The Covers Album
With the upcoming release of Celine Dion's new cover album I made an album of previous songs she has covered. Included is the massive hit, originally by Jennifer Rush, 'The Power Of Love', the amazing 'All By Myself', originally by Eric Carmen, 'I Drove All Night' by Cindi Lauper, 'When I Fall In Love', originally by Doris Day but later made famous by Nat King Cole and also includes newer covers such as Heart's 'Alone'.
Celine Dion - Love Is On The Way
Celine Dion is one of only a few people who can take someone elses song and make you never listen to the original again because it becomes her song. 'Love Is On The Way' is a perfect example of that. Her new album 'Water And A Flame' is going to be an album of covers and I can not wait to hear her new covers.
Celine Dion Loves Adele
Celine Dion said she loves "literally everything" about
the British singer, including her vocal talent and her body image, and
thinks she is going to "help the world". She told Vegas magazine:
"I love her extreme talent. I love her writing. Her songs come from the
soul. She's incredibly beautiful. And I think it's very refreshing to
see, and don't get me wrong when I say this, somebody who is not looking
extremely anorexic."
The mother-of-three continued: "I know for a
fact, as much as you do, that the music industry makes kids get sick.
So we're not going to go further on that, but you know what I mean." Celine,
44, added: "Her beauty is extremely sophisticated as well. Her nails,
her jewellery, her make-up, her hair. She's going to help us, she's
going to help the world."
Although she has met countless celebs,
Celine admitted she might be a bit overwhelmed when she finally gets to
meet Adele, who is currently expecting her first baby. "It's going to be bad when I meet her," she said. "I'm going to give her the biggest hug, I'm not kidding."
Daniel Merriweather & Adele - Water And A Flame
This song is really good. I didn't really know it existed until today.

X-Men: Days Of Future Past - X-Men: First Class 2
Fox envisions X-Men: First Class as the first film of a new trilogy. Lauren Shuler-Donner compared the franchise plans to be similar to the darker, more mature content of the Harry Potter film series.Matthew Vaughn and Bryan Singer will return to direct and produce the sequel, respectively. While speaking about the sequels, director Vaughn said, "First Class is similar to Batman Begins,
where you have the fun of introducing the characters and getting to
know them, but that takes time. But with the second one, you can just
get on with it and have a rollicking good time. That’s the main
difference between Batman Begins and The Dark Knight."
On how First Class 2 could open, Vaughn said: “I thought it would be fun to open with the Kennedy assassination, and we reveal that the magic bullet was controlled by Magneto.” Vaughn has speculated that a sequel could be set in "in the latter part of the 1960s where you’ve got The Stones, The Beatles, flower power." Actor James McAvoy said he has a contract for three movies, and expressed interest in seeing Charles Xavier
get “really messed up” in the sequel and speculated that a third film
could show his transition into a character closer to the one played by Patrick Stewart in the original trilogy. Michael Fassbender has said that he is "very excited" about the possibility of a sequel.
He has said: "We worked very hard. It was a very trying time. Thank
God, James is a good guy a very smart guy and he's a very practical guy.
Matthew's great because he makes films as a fan. There's something like
a nine-year-old boy in him when he's making a film. He's very much into
characters and allowing the characters to drive the plot and the plot
to drive the action film, as opposed to action driving the film and
threading in some sort of a plot. It was a very rewarding experience, so
hopefully we'll get the same team back again." Producer Lauren Shuler Donner has said that the sequel may be set in the 1970s. Writer and executive producer Bryan Singer has stated that it could be set around the Civil rights movement or the Vietnam War, and that Wolverine could once again be featured. Hugh Jackman has said that he would like to return. Simon Kinberg who co-wrote X-Men: The Last Stand and co-produced X-Men: First Class will write the sequel.
Actress Jennifer Lawrence has expressed interest in reprising her role as Mystique in a sequel. Rose Byrne and Álex González revealed that they had signed on for one or two more films in the X-Men franchise. January Jones has said that she would love to do another film. Lucas Till has said that he would like to reprise the role of Havok. Jason Flemyng has expressed interest in exploring the origins of Nightcrawler.
McAvoy added he wants to portray the psychological transformations
Xavier suffers: "He can't just become the guy that we saw in the first
three movies. He just had two major things happen to him. He's lost his
best friend, essentially, and he's just been paralyzed from the waist
down. Which is just a huge, huge blow to his considerable ego. So he's
got to deal with that."
The sequel is scheduled to go into production in January 2013, when Jennifer Lawrence has finished shooting the film adaptation of Catching Fire, the sequel to The Hunger Games. The sequel is scheduled for a release on July 18, 2014. In August 2012, Singer stated that the film was still being scripted, and revealed that the film's title is Days of Future Past.

The Office To End After Season Nine
NBC's The Office will end after its upcoming ninth season. Executive producer Greg Daniels will return as showrunner for the final year, taking over from Paul Lieberstein, who is prepping a potential spinoff. Daniels ran the show, still NBC's highest-rated scripted series, for its first five seasons. "As we head into the homestretch, we have a lot of exciting things
I've been wanting to do since season two," Daniel told reporters during a
conference call Tuesday. "The end should be pretty cool."
Daniels, who was on-set during the call announcing the news, called
it the "last chance" for the crew "to go out" the way he had envisioned,
noting that "familiar faces [will be] coming back" as well as welcoming
new cast members including Jake Lacy and Clark Duke for what might be an "emotional" ending for some. "At some point you have a choice: to always tell the beginnings of
stories and the middles or to allow a story to end, and I think endings
can be very powerful and meaningful pieces of the story," said Daniels,
who added that NBC Entertainment president Bob Greenblatt was
supportive of the plan to end the series. "If we didn't let it end this
year, I don't know if we would have been able to tell the endings for
so many characters that I really want to know the endings for."
The end of The Office means a big turning point for NBC as
it looks to revamp its scripted lineup. The network is betting big on
freshman comedies, picking up seven to series and giving condensed
orders for returning half-hours including Community and 30 Rock, the latter of which also will wrap after this season. (The Office and Parks and Recreation
were the only comedies to receive 22-episode pickups.) "They may also
be crying over lost advertising," Daniels joked, acknowledging the value
The Office has to the network. "Hopefully they'll have other things that are working by the end of the year."
The final season will be different from recent seasons, Daniels said, in that it will focus on arcs rather than episodic comedy. "The real heart of the show are these arcs that allow these
characters to have ongoing stories. It's all going to be set up in the
premiere," he told reporters. "There's so much to pay off from nine
seasons, so many great characters, that my biggest concern is just
tacking in these great ideas that the writing staff has on the walls and
making sure we hit all of them or at least squeeze as many into the
ending."
Daniels expressed hope that he would be able to keep big moments top
secret, for the most part. In the era of the Internet and spoilers, he
acknowledged that it might be impossible. "I would like to try to get
back to the world where the world is surprised" by the story instead of
reading about it three weeks before, he said.
Most of the main cast of characters will remain on the show, though some (B.J. Novak and Mindy Kaling)
in diminished capacities. "There are so many storylines to follow now,
so many endings to write for different characters, risky things we
wouldn't normally do if we knew we were going for a long time," Daniels
said. "Now that we have an end date, we can blow up things and take some
chances. It's very freeing and creatively exciting for the audience."
Some of those chances include upcoming storylines like Nellie (Catherine Tate) holding a charity drive at the office and Dwight (Rainn Wilson) donating to the Taliban in retaliation. The identities of the documentary crew also will be a big part of season nine. "All questions will be answered this year," said Daniels. "We'll see who's behind the documentary, and we'll meet some of them."
To bring it full circle, Daniels hopes that Ken Kwapis, who directed the pilot, will helm the final episode. Does this mean that Steve Carell would return for a swan song as Michael Scott? "We'll see," Daniels said of the idea to bring the actor back to the
series that helped launch his career. "We have ideas for the ending, and
obviously if he would participate, we would have a lot of good times.
The idea will fly without him if he can't make it. He is pretty busy."
The news to end the series comes after Universal Television, one of the studios behind The Office, locked up former EP/current Parks & Rec showrunner Michael Schur in a new two-year overall deal that will see the Emmy winner develop additional projects for the studio.

Olympics by using the closing ceremony as the launchpad for his new
single. In a message to his fans on Twitter, he said: "I don't regret it." George
raised eyebrows during the showpiece event when he performed new track
White Light when other artists were drawing on their biggest hits for
the music spectacular, being viewed around the world.
The song was
his first new material since he was fighting for his life late last
year after contracting pneumonia, and was inspired by his health woes.
His performance on Sunday marked his return to the stage after being in
hospital for several weeks in Vienna as a result of the illness. George's
use of the high profile event seems to have paid dividends as he looks
likely to register his first top 10 hit for eight years when the
Official Charts Company unveils the next singles chart at the weekend.
In
a message on Twitter, he said: "Had a great time at the closing! I hope
you are not bothered by the press reports of my scandalous
'promotion'." And in a forthright response he added: "Please join
me in telling them to fuck off. It was my one chance on TV to thank you
all for your loyalty and prayers, and I took it. And I don't regret it."
Michael
also performed Freedom '90, which made it to only number 28 in the
charts, despite having a series of chart-toppers and top 10 hits from
which to choose. However 'Freedom 90' felt like the right choice for the evening and 'White Light' gave George the ultimate chance to show where he is 30 years after he began.
